Isaiah Morales
Isaiah “Zay” Morales was a bilingual teenager from the Baltimore area who lived with epilepsy and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). He became a patient of Dr. Logan Weston after years in which clinicians had dismissed or misattributed his symptoms. His mother, Mrs. Morales, had advocated persistently for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate care.
Personality and Communication
Isaiah was observant and used dry sarcasm to deflect concern. He frequently insisted that he was fine and resisted discussing lapses in food, fluid, and symptom management. With Logan, he alternated between substantive engagement and ordinary teenage resistance to medical direction.
Isaiah spoke English and Spanish and code-switched with his family.
Health and Disabilities
Isaiah had epilepsy and POTS. His care required consistent medication, attention to seizure triggers, hydration, increased salt intake, and awareness of orthostatic symptoms. He sometimes substituted granola bars and electrolyte packets for adequate meals despite his care team’s objections.
His delayed diagnoses affected his trust in medical care. Logan’s practice provided a setting in which his and his mother’s reports were taken seriously.
Family and Core Relationships
Mrs. Morales
Mrs. Morales spent years seeking answers for Isaiah’s symptoms and remained closely involved in his care. She also enlisted Isaiah’s grandmother when his self-neglect exceeded what she could manage alone.
Professional and Mentoring Relationships
